Auto auctions is somewhat to be a good event to bought your dream car at a minimal cost. The ads are enticing, whether you can spot them in local newspapers, view them in an infomercial or come across them on the Internet. And, for many people who are looking to drive home a car, advertised auctions appeal to their desire to avoid price negotiations or h shopping among dealerships.

Before responding to an ad promising the inside scoop to government auctions for automobiles or any other property, the Better Business Bureau advises consumers to:

Check with the federal government first.
Look for information about upcoming sales in the classified or business sections of national or local newspapers or in notices at post offices, town halls and other local and federal government buildings.

If you do decide to purchase your next vehicle at a government seized car auction, the BBB advises the following:

Stories about exotic cars sold for little or nothing are pure fiction! As the U.S. General Services Administration advises: "There are no giveaways…GSA expects to receive a fair market price, and every item has an undisclosed minimum price."
The cars are not new and their condition may vary.
The government does not provide any form of financing. Check with the government agency beforehand for acceptable forms of payment.
There are no guarantees. The federal government does not guarantee the condition of its sale items, and is not responsible for any problems that may be identified after the sale.

Become familiar with the common types of auction sales (sealed bid, auction, spot bid and fixed-price sales). Are you pumped up to join in a government seized car. Just don’t forget some guidelines to have a successful deal. Goodluck!

Need a usable car at a low price? Cheap used car auctions are what you’re looking for. They are held regularly at designated places and it’s not hard to find them. All you need to do is to ask your local government or community organizers about it.

What cheap used car auctions do is to sell cars that are second hand but still in good condition, at very reasonable prices. Sometimes these used cars surprise the buyers with their great performance. They can even rival the performance of newer cars sometimes.

If you’re planning to buy a car from an auction, there are some things you should know. Firstly, where do these cars come from? Most of the cars at these auctions are seized or repossessed. This means that governments or banks have seized them from people who have defaulted in paying them back or have committed nefarious criminal activities.

You can any day get a better deal on a used car that is as good as new at an auction than what you would get from the car dealers. Manage your finances and plan your expenses before you go to bid at such an auction. They may be sold at a discount, but they are still quite costly. Set a ceiling price or a maximum price that you are willing to pay for the car that interests you and never bid over that ceiling price.

On the actual day of the car auction, make sure you turn up early. It’s said that the early bird gets the worm, so if you want the maximum amount of choice amongst all the cars at the auction, arrive early. It may also be a good idea to take an expert on used cars with you.
Remember, these cars are second hand or repossessed. This means there could easily be some defect with them. Check them thoroughly both from the outside and the inside. Make sure they are spotless and in working order. Make sure the engine still works. Check for the VIN# stickers that should be all around the vehicle to prove that all parts are real and that it’s not put together from part of other cars.

When your bid is finalized, examine the purchase contract meticulously. If everything is clearly and lucidly termed and all seems to be well, then go ahead and put your signature on it. A used car auction can really be a great place to buy a car!

Don't feel like coming to the auction because of the rain? I don't blame you. It's pretty bad out there and traffic in the Bay Area is pretty bad when it rains. But, here's something you should know:

on rainy days, there's a lot less people coming to the auctions. So what does this mean to you? It means LESS people will be bidding on the car that you want. You have a better chance for a better deal by taking advantage of this fact.

Alameda County Auction holds automobile auctions on the first Saturday of the month, RAIN or SHINE. Come down to the auction tomorrow and get yourself a great deal on one or more of the 299 cars that will be going on the auction block. Hope to see you here!

The word is official - there will no longer be any auctions at Sacramento Public Auction. After a year of being open up in McClellan Business Park, we have decided to discontinue our public auctions. That's too bad... I really enjoyed going up to Sacramento once a month. It was a nice facility, but I guess the demand just wasn't there for that area. Hasta la vista Sacramento =-(

1959 Cadillac DeVille up for auction

Anybody interested in a 1959 Cadillac DeVille? It is white with black/blue interior. 66,130 Miles. VIN# 59K128205. Power windows, power seats, A/C and all windows are intact. The car runs fine, but needs some TLC. We have it listed on Ebay. The current bid price is at $7,100. Hurry - the auction for this vehicle ends on Saturday at 1pm.

Pictures of the Sacramento Public Auction facility

Earlier this week, I drove up to McClellan Air Force Base to help set-up the network for Sacramento Public Auction. Although we still have a lot to do, we're shooting for November 11, 2006 to be our first car auction event. Of course, more details will follow as soon as I'm given the go-ahead. In the meantime, here are some photos from our Sacramento facility. It's a little rough right now, but I was assured that the place will be cleaned up by next week.

Here's a photo of the front of the facility. It's actually a 33,000 square foot airplane hangar.

The nice thing about this auction, is that it's indoors. No need to worry about rain, sleet or snow spoiling your fun!

Here's a photo of the the entrance from the inside.

Just to get a perspective on how big the hangar door is, notice the red circled area - that is a standard 7-foot tall door.

We already started moving some of our inventory from Dublin.

Below is one of two financing offices located in the middle of the hangar.

The photo below shows the entrance to the administrative offices and cashier area.

Just past this doorway, is the cashier area. This area is more than twice the size of the cashier area at Alameda County Auction.

It's a bit of a mess right now, but at least, progress is being made.

This last photo is a mural that's painted on the wall by the car wash area. It might have some historic value, so we decided not to paint over it.

That's all the photos I have for now, but I'll be going up again next week. I expect to see a lot of changes.

I'll be announcing the URL for the new website sometime next week. Have a safe Halloween!

Just a reminder about tomorrow's car auction. Auction preview starts at 7:30am and goes until 8:59am. Get there early so you can preview your car. I know that I've mentioned this several times before, but it still bears repeating:

Don't bid on a car unless you've previewed it first!

You don't know how many times I've seen this happen. Why would you even think of buying something without first looking it over? It's not rocket-science. Save yourself the aggravation and the heartache - come in early and inspect the car you wish to bid on.

More Tips:

- an 'M' written on the windshield of the car means the car is a manual transmission (stick-shift); 'A' stands for automatic transmission.

- a 'red' sticker on the windshield (with a smiley face) means that a warranty is available for the vehicle.
